Knittin' a hat

I do not have a hat. I usually just wear ear bands, and I did buy myself a ninjaclava for the super extreme days, but i recently realized just how silly it was that I was a knitter without a hat of my own. I have made PLENTY, but i never seem to make them for myself. As this is the year of the stash for many of us, i decided it was time to look into my own stash. I have this yarn, and it is my FAVORITE yarn. I seem to say that about all the yarns i really love, but i REALLY love this yarn. It is Cascade Pastaza, and i cannot remember the colorway right now...but it is brown with some silver/gray mixed in for good measure. I have made a hat for my mom with this yarn, and even felted a bag with it. I do not recommend it for felted projects. It emerged from the felting process looking like a poor, unfortunate, deflated victim of roadkill. It sure does knit into a lovely hat though!
I am knitting this on 9's, and using my very vanilla hat pattern. Cast on 78 stitches, work in garter for approximately one to two inches, and then switch to stockinette. Approximately one inch up from beginning of stockinette line, i throw in a garter stitch, to give it a little shape. Work for 6(?) inches or so (i need to refer to my notes here!), and begin decreasing, switch to dpn's, and cast off. yep, pretty vanilla...but hey, i love vanilla!
So, friday nights episode of BSG was kind of a letdown. I really cannot stand Gaeta this days, or Zarek for that matter. And how gross are Six and Tigh together? eww. And would someone please council Apollo, and let him know that the suit and that hair do NOT look good on him? I almost prefer fat Apollo to politician Apollo. Am i right, or am i right? Or am i right? And how about that zinger with Poor Chief Tyrol? Hotdog, of all people? Poor Chief....he has always been one of my favorite characters.
Lost premiered last week, and can i just say that i LOVE Ben?! He is just THE most entertaining person to watch on that show...well, him and Miles, one of the newbies. Miles did not have any good snarky comments last week that i could remember, but i have to say that during the hiatus i had forgotten about him, and was delighted when he made an appearance last week, as he completely cracks me up.
I am not writing about the weather today. It is snowy. Really snowy...more snowy than most people could envision, with an arse-load more predicted.

Teeheehee... I could loan you the Knight. His new approach to shopping: stop at dog sweaters. (Gretchen's still growing, as I'm sure you realize...) I'm scanning for something she'd wear, because she is picky. Him: "Can't you just knit her something?" (implied - because surely that would be easier than buying one?)

He'd point out all the things you could - and should - just knit for yourself.

I love how you said you were not talking about the weather and then told us all about it.

Can't wait to see you (or one of the boys) modelling your new hat. g

You are one up on me. So far, nothing on the needles for me. what pattern are you using?
As for Lost....I hate Ben. He makes my skin crawl. I'm glad they are winding it up. I think an additional season would ruin it. It is great that they are answering questions and clearing up the mysteries, but it's as stretch so far. IMO

You know it was kinda slow. Oh, ok, really slow!! But then again, rethinking it, alot happened. I need to watch it again. Lots of eps are like that with BSG where at first I'm sort of let down and then it turns out to be a great episode.

And poor Chief!! I knew. I knew as soon as Cottle got that look on his face. I even knew it was Hotdog. I guess i've been watching this show too long, haha!!

Nothing makes me want Fat Apollo back (I'm so damn shallow! Which I never knew about myself until Fat Apollo.) But YES. Egads, cut the hair. Dude. He is the epitome of hotness...with shorter hair!! Wonder if he really likes it like that? Or if maybe his wife prefers it long? Does she not have eyeballs??? This is a mystery to me.

I like your hat! It sounds easy, and I'm sure it will look real cute when its all knit up!
I was really into lost, up to the end of last season, but then for whatever reason, I wasn't excited to see it at all when it premiered. Oh well....

Oh! and I've been meaning to tell you that the cookies that the littles made me did all run together, and they were a little lumpy, but they still tasted great, and were gone before I could get a picture for you! I can definitely say that yours are way better though!!

I love Ben, too! He is so deliciously evil.

Yvonne, it is not really a pattern..it is from a basic hat class that i took a few years back, and you basically just wing it.
Princess, that makes me feel better that their cookies bit it! ;o)
Angie, you almost made me spit out my coffee with the Fat Apollo comment! and i gotta say, i enjoyed that BSG epi. much better the second time i watched it. How funny was it when Baltar just sat there and smoked nonchalantly as the fight broke out?
Runs, I am SO glad that someone else enjoys Ben as much as i do, he is WAY too fun to watch.
Chan, Dogs in Knits is a GREAT book for dog patterns! That is where Fred and Henry's sweaters came from.
G, i will try and get Henry to model the hat for me!
