Help!! Need a shawl for a formal!!

Ok...this idea is kind of hijacked from Chan's post, and since i have TWO readers, :o), i probably will not get much advice here...but my two readers ARE wonderful...so i am betting they can steer me in the right direction.

We have a formal coming up in December, and i cannot find my trusty black pashmina shawl that I usually wear to the formals. Have turned the house practically upside down looking for this stinking thing, and all i can come up with is that it got left at a restaurant or movie theatre.

So, my dress is black. always black...i just do not deviate from that, as i have all the necessary accessories for black dresses. When you have three to four of these things to go to a year, you learn to economize!
The spouse is an Engineer, so that means Engineer RED. So...the shawl can be red, or black. Preferably black though. I live in a FRIGID climate, so it needs to be warm...but not crazy warm. They do heat the buildings here. And, it needs to be formal, so nothing too chunky.
Oh, and i have never knit lace before, but i am not scared to knit it either.

Ulmus rectangle. I bought yarn for me do one in Debbie Bliss Alpaca Silk DK. We could have a mini-KAL! (The pattern is written for two colors, so you could do black and red or black and white if you're feeling very conservative.)

I think Chan is spot on with that recommendation. The center panel appears to just be yarn over - so easy enough. I would do it in one color - black if you can handle knitting in black, but then it will be a delicate, lacy version of your beloved (and lost) pashmina.

You could always send The Princess into the City to get you another pashmina - an inexpensive version in black. However I think knitting your own in a way better idea.

Knit on! I want photos!!! g

Well, i could knit one, AND send the Princess into the city..i am sure she would love an excuse to shop! ;o)

I think i would do solid black, too.

I would love the excuse to shop, and sense your dress is black already, I might end up getting you something that is black and grey patterned with their oh so pretty pashmina designs, or maybe a red and red design... black on black on black sounds like you would lose the details of your knitting work, or your great figure! You should try to accent with a different color, does it have to be red, or could it be a blue green color to bring out your eyes?
